Bring Out Your Radiance with Exfoliation
Skin care can be a little confusing, and also a bit daunting. It seems like every week there’s another mask, cream or serum promising to be the next miracle. While these are great components to your skin care program, one component you may be missing is exfoliation.
Simply put, exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells on the outermost surface layer (the epidermis). Exfoliation can turn good skin to radiant skin in just a few steps.
There are two methods: chemical exfoliation and mechanical exfoliation. We are proud to say, at Villano | MD, we have both methods covered.
Chemical Exfoliation
Daily chemical exfoliation involves the use of skin care products that interact chemically with the epidermis. At Villano | MD, we recommend:
- Obagi Exfoderm, for dry, thin or sensitive skin
- Obagi Exfoderm Forte, for thick, oily, large-pored or rough skin
The active ingredient in Obagi Exfoderm is phytic acid; while the active ingredients in Obagi Exfoderm Forte are the stronger AHA’s (alpha hydroxyl acids) – lactic and glycolic acids.
Daily application of one of these products as a part of your skin care regimen is a must for a smooth, glowing healthy complexion. Villano | MD aestheticians are trained in personalized skin care and are ready to assist you in finding the most appropriate products and solutions for your facial skin care needs.
Regular chemical exfoliation can be achieved through the application of facial peels appropriate to your skin type and goals. At Villano | MD, we offer both Medical Spa Peels and deeper, physician-applied Chemical Peels.
Our 6% Pure Retinol Peel and Ultra Peel Forte are great once-a-month treatments performed by our trained in-house aestheticians to exfoliate and help you maintain that healthy glow.
Deep, more intensive peels are administered by Dr. Villano and include medium-depth (TCA) peels and the Deep Phenol Peel. TCA peels are a great once-a-year exfoliation, while the Deep Phenol Peel offers one-time dramatic results, often taking as much as 10 years off the face.
Mechanical Exfoliation
Mechanical exfoliation is another must, and can be made a regular part of your skin care regimen with the help of Villano | MD. We have Bend’s experts in the art of Dermaplane.
Dermaplaning is a safe, simple procedure that exfoliates the epidermis while ridding the skin of the fine vellus hair, also lovingly referred to as peach fuzz, that can cause a buildup of dirt and oils on the face.
This quick and comfortable procedure is recommended as a monthly stand-alone treatment to complement your skin care product applications. Dermaplaning can also be used as a regular add-on treatment to increase the efficacy of facials, fotofacials, spa peels or deep peels. However you use it, Dermaplaning is an integral step towards achieving your best result.
