MicroNeedling and the PRP Boost
Chances are, you’ve heard about the benefits of Collagen Induction Therapy―or, as it’s more commonly called, MicroNeedling. The procedure creates precise micro-tears that spur your body’s own reparative collagen renewal processes, creating soft, luminous skin. What could be better than a natural and non-invasive “lunchtime” procedure that turns up your youthful glow? The answer? The PRP boost!
PRP stands for “platelet-rich plasma.” It’s been used for years in orthopedic medicine, dentistry, and reconstructive surgery to speed up recovery time post-surgery. Now, cosmetic technology is catching up and PRP MicroNeedling is catching on. Thanks to a certain well-placed Kardashian, whose youthful glow is among the most photographed in the world, those in-the-know are solidly on board with PRP, making this latest beauty trend a must-have in your anti-aging arsenal.
From You, to You
Here’s the neat part: The PRP used in conjunction with your MicroNeedling treatment comes directly from you―not synthetic chemicals or animal by-products.
Why is this important? Simple. Since the PRP is derived from your own blood supply, side effects and adverse reactions are virtually eliminated. Using your own body’s platelet-rich plasma to stimulate and enhance collagen and elastin renewal is proven to be the safest and most effective way to achieve amazing rejuvenative results.
How MicroNeedling Works
A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and placed into a sterile tube. This sample is then “centrifuged” (placed in a specialized, rapidly rotating machine that uses centrifugal force to separate components) to isolate the plasma that will be used for your collagen induction treatment. Plasma contains a high concentration of the platelets, stem cells, and growth factors that will help your tissue grow new cells―specifically, collagen and elastin cells. The PRP solution derived from this process is applied to the treatment area both before and after the MicroNeedling procedure, allowing it to penetrate your skin through the micro-channels created during the MicroNeedling. In effect, it is your own PRP that gives a powerful boost to the collagen induction process initiated during the MicroNeedling procedure―your body’s PRP, boosting your body’s collagen production mechanisms.
The procedure lasts about an hour. During the first 30 minutes, as the topical numbing gel that is applied to the facial treatment area is taking effect, your blood is drawn and centrifuged to obtain the PRP. The application of the PRP solution and MicroNeedling procedure are undertaken during the second half of the procedure. Your aesthetician will apply a hydrating gel to soothe any irritation post-procedure. Downtime is minimal, with only one to three days of mild redness. A post-treatment kit for home use helps speed recovery. And, as always, be sure and apply your sunblock!
You will notice results immediately―a fresh glow to your skin is apparent after the initial treatment, and continuing improvement is noticeable as your collagen production ramps up in succeeding weeks. A minimum of three treatment sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended, with six treatments total suggested for best results.
PRP MicroNeedling is safe and effective for adults of all skin types. PRP MicroNeedling is a good option for people who are not good candidates for laser therapies, including those with darker skin. It can also be particularly effective as a targeted therapy for treating facial acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and melasma.
