The Skincare Regimen for Retaining Youthful Radiance

Women are constantly on the go. Between rushing the kids to school and getting to work, who has time to devote to a skincare regimen? You do – if you do it right. Experts agree: a proactive beauty regimen can be as simple as it is essential.

You breezed through your twenties, glowing with a youthful radiance that took you into your thirties with your attention focused solidly on career-building and family-raising. Great! You’re doing awesome. But, lately, you’ve begun to notice changes of the not-so-youthful, not-so-glowing kind: Fine lines? Uneven skin tone? Duller complexion? Life happens.

But here’s the good news: You can slow the effects of aging by taking charge of your skin and adopting a proactive beauty regimen.

Today there are more options available than ever before that will provide you with timeless beauty that will see you through your forties and beyond. Here’s what the experts advise:

1. Adopt a quality skincare regimen.

Help your skin help itself by choosing a skincare regimen that includes daily cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and sun protection. Look for products that deliver antioxidants, peptides, and retinol—all of which aid in the skin’s collagen renewal process. We recommend Obagi Skin Care Products and EltaMD to protect and preserve your youthful skin.

2. Don’t fear neuromodulators.

Neuromodulators are a must in proactive care. Dysport and Botox can relax the muscles in your face, prevent wrinkles from forming, and erase those that have already appeared. And no, your face will not look frozen. A few injections a year will keep those wrinkle-forming muscles in check without altering the warmth in your eyes and smile.

3. Fillers are your friends.

Dermal fillers such as Restylane and Sculptra help correct the loss of volume that takes hold as we age. Plumping out hollows and smoothing out folds keep your face looking full and fresh, and can be done easily with occasional in-and-out visits to your physician’s office.

To ensure a safe and appropriately targeted treatment, always use a board certified physician provider. At Villano | MD, you’re in good hands. Dr. Villano does all of the injections himself and is Board Certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

4. Take advantage of facial resurfacing therapies.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) laser therapy and collagen induction therapy are two effective resurfacing modalities that prompt your skin’s reparative and renewal processes.

ELOS-IPL FotoFacial RF therapy strategically targets layers of skin with radiant energy. This stimulates the skin’s repair mechanisms, which reduces fine lines and wrinkles, evens out skin tone, eliminates redness, and repairs tissue scarring that can result from acne. Collagen Induction Therapy, also known as MicroNeedling, introduces micro-traumas that promote the skin’s collagen production function in the deeper layers of skin, resulting in a radiant and renewed complexion.

5. Exfoliate daily.

Regular exfoliation is a must for a proactive skincare regimen. Make sure to include exfoliating products in your daily routine such as Obagi Exfoderm or Exfoderm Forte, which offer phytic acid and alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs) that remove dead surface cells, which can dull your complexion.

Make time for periodic visits to your aesthetician for exfoliating Medical Spa Peels. The PCA 6% Retinol Peel and Ultra Forte Peel are great once-a-month exfoliating treatments that keep skin glowing. A once-a-year medium depth TCA peel can offer an even more dramatic exfoliating effect. All peels should be combined with a dermaplane treatment for optimum results.

6. Stay Hydrated.

We have all heard the “8 by 8” rule: eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. But do we really need to drink that much water? If you want gorgeous skin, yes! Drinking at least eight glasses a day allows our bodies to function optimally and is essential for your skincare regimen.

Consider this: Skin is an organ, and just like any other organ of the body, it is made up of cells, which are composed primarily of water. Attention to adequate fluid intake ensures that our body’s cells—including our skin cells—function at their best as they go about their daily business of metabolizing nutrients and flushing out toxins.

In addition to drinking water, hydrate your skin directly through regular application of moisturizers. Inadequate hydration results in tight, dry, and flaky skin, which has less resilience and increased dullness. So say cheers to hydration and youthful skin, and drink up!
