Mid-facelift Surgery

From a very early age we learn to identify facial expressions and corresponding emotions. Smiles express happiness, raised eyebrows express surprise and furrowed brows express anger. However, as we age our faces often misrepresent us. The earliest signs of aging affect the mid-face region. The cheekbones begin losing structure, cheek fat begins to droop and smile lines emerge.

In the mid-face, the most noticeable changes occur under the eyes and around the cheeks. The deepening of the nasolabial creases (smile lines or cheek folds) and increasing lower eyelid depression lend a saggy appearance to the face. Endoscopic mid-facelift surgery (also called vertical lift or cheek lift) elevates sagging skin and cheek fat, reducing smile lines and lower eyelid depression.

The endoscopic method has several advantages over traditional facelift surgery because it’s less traumatic to the body. Although patients with minimal to moderate skin excess are best suited for endoscopic browlift surgery and mid-facelift surgery, these procedures may also be performed in conjunction with a Rhytidectomy (facelift).

The procedure is typically performed in our office, usually on an outpatient basis. Mid-facelift surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia. With local anesthesia, you’ll be awake during the procedure, but anesthetized and relaxed. The surgery time can vary, depending on the extent of the procedure.
