Why Wintertime is a Great Time to Get a Peel

There are several reasons why skin loses elasticity. Loss of elastin and collagen (types of proteins in the skin) is caused directly by aging, smoking and sun exposure (which has a stronger effect in the summertime.) When elastin and collagen start diminishing, wrinkles (medically known as rhytids) begin to form. A peel is a great way to reverse these effects by removing superficial skin layers and stimulating collagen and elastin production.

What We Offer

At Villano | MD, we offer both medical spa peels performed by our aestheticians and more intensive, deeply penetrating chemical peels performed by Dr. Villano. Avoiding sunlight is essential for healing after any type of chemabrasion, which makes wintertime a great time to get a peel. A medium-depth (TCA) peel, administered by Dr. Villano, is a great once-a-year treatment that takes care of summer damage. Superficial (6% Pure Retinol and Ultra Peel Forte) is a lighter treatment that our aestheticians can perform once a month to maintain a healthy glow, and deeper peels (Deep Phenol, also conducted by Dr. Villano) can have dramatic results in wrinkle reduction by promoting vigorous collagen production that can take as much as 10 years off the face.

Advantages of Peels During the Winter

  • Summertime sun exposure directly damages the elastin/collagen in our skin.
  • Peels can reverse this damage by removing superficial skin layers and stimulating collagen and elastin production.
  • Peels can be tailored to each individual and vary from medical spa peels to more intensive, deeply penetrating chemical peels.
  • Avoiding sunlight is essential for healing after a chemabrasion, which makes wintertime a great time to get a peel.

Medical Spa Peels

Our medical spa peels include the PCA Skincare 6% Pure Retinol and the PCA Skincare Ultra Peel Forte and are performed in-office by our trained aestheticians. The 6% Pure Retinol targets visible signs of aging, helping to improve surface texture and brighten the skin. Patients with sallow or dull complexions in particular achieve great results. What’s more, you get all the great effects of peeling without any discomfort at the time of application. This peel is composed of a cream-based, physician-only compound that our patients are raving about. The Ultra Peel is also a physician-only formula and is very successful when used in a series. This application rejuvenates the skin and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to promote even skin tone. This is a more active treatment and works best on resilient skin. The aestheticians at Villano | MD are trained to assess each patient’s skin type and help guide them in which peel is right for them. And don’t forget, we always recommend a dermaplane treatment in conjunction with your peel, as it removes dead surface cells pre-treatment allowing for better results.

Deep Peels

Get surgical results without going under the knife with our chemical peels. These skin resurfacing peels are also performed in-office, however, they are performed by Dr. Villano. They are more intensive and require a preliminary consultation with Dr. Villano to discuss goals and expectations during which, together, you will develop an appropriate personalized treatment plan. The chemical peel is available in two strengths. The medium-depth TCA Peel and the more penetrating Deep Phenol will promote new skin growth with the absence of blemishes, blotches and wrinkles and take years off your face. Sedation options are available with the TCA Peel, and are required for the Deep Phenol Peel. Post-peel requirements and recovery times vary depending on the depth of the peel chosen, and will be discussed during your consultation. Dr. Villano has over 15 years of experience and is the only physician in Central Oregon currently offering these deep peels. Whether you’re in the mood for a medical spa treatment or more radical results with a deep peel by Villano | MD, let winter be your cover!
